BASIC Rabbit Care

Pellets

A rabbits main diet consist of good quality, hay based pellets! Altjough rabbits need hay in their diet, it is not enough alone for them to thrive. Pellets are the base to healthy and well functioning rabbit. I recommend Purina Show Rabbit Feed. You can find this at your local Tractor Supply.

Hay

Hay is a rabbits side dish. Timothy Hay is the best hay for a rabbit. It is also great for keeping their teeth in check. Hay should be given unlimited for growing rabbits up to 3 1/2 months. After that, you can give your bunny a big handful of hay every few days.

Cages

Both solid and wire bottom cages work for Holland Lops. I recommend wire bottom as it keep the rabbit more sanitary. What about sore hocks? Ah, a misunderstanding. Sore hocks are very real, but come from a dirty environment rather than wire bottom. Some larger breeds like that of the rex don’t take to wire bottom easy as their feet are not padded like Holland lops and their weight is much greater. You can find great cages at KW Cages (kwcages.com)
